Size comparison of world buildings, with Albert Speer’s planned Volkshalle on the left. The building was to be the central feature of the capital city Berlin (to be renamed “Germania”). The building, inspired by Hitler’s admiration for the Roman Pantheon, was to be be seven times bigger than St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, and the dome the largest one ever constructed. The total height of the structure would have been nearly 300 meters tall (1,000 ft). If it stood today, it would constitute the largest enclosed space in the world.
